I've just gone through all my old entries and added tags to them. Although tags don't appear to be really useful yet - for example, there doesn't seem to be a way to list another user's tags that I have access to, and there's no RSS feed associated with tags - I'm hopeful that the promised improvements will make them well worthwhile. The previous lack of some categorisation feature of this sort is something that has bugged me about LiveJournal, so it's nice to see a step in the right direction.

Having categorised all 111 posts (not counting this one), the breakdown was as follows:
personal:57
humour:29
software development:28
work:21
movies:13
thought:12
steampunk:11
doctor who:11
scotland:10
music:10
books:8
current affairs:8
travel:8
roleplaying:8
miniatures:7
hardware:6
food:5
prehistory:3
livejournal:3

The total comes to more than 111 because some topics have multiple tags.

It looks like personal - by which I meant that it says something about me - is not such a helpful tag for differentiating entries on a personal journal. Perhaps I should have foreseen that! And maybe I will have to revise the number of those down a bit. However, it's interesting to see the breakdown of the remaining tags.

I've been a bit disappointed by how little I've written about work and/or software development, but according to the number of tags I've written more about those than I thought I had. Music and movies aren't as high as I thought they might be; perhaps I just remember them better because they seem to be among my more popular posts, judging by comment feedback.

I could provide permanent links to some of these tags - does anyone care enough to have preferences?

But... but... but... surely Doctor Who should be top of the list?
