Never a dull moment

The last week or so has been a bit busy.

I took a week off work, and pootled down to London for the first weekend to visit scottymcleod, Jan and my godson Andrew. Andrew was just mastering walking and went from a step or three at the start of the weekend to crossing the room by the end of it, so I timed that visit well! Although I'd only seen Andrew the month before up here in Fife the progress was noticeable. Parents also seem to be doing fine! There was a worrying time for all when another baby was suddenly taken ill, but hopefully all will be well.

Just before I'd left, an e-mail arrived setting a deadline of the following Thursday for submitting a piece for possible inclusion in Microsoft's marketing materials for Visual Studio 2005. Although the chances of such materials reaching our business's target market are pretty slim - are there many HR staff who are also developers? - I would have been disappointed if we'd failed to submit through some inaction on my part, so I wrote something on returning, before sending it back to the office for completion and vetting by qidane and our marketing manager.

The main business of the week was then moving all sorts of stuff around from room to room and from house to house in order to fit msinvisfem into her room. Although mostly completed, I still have some mess to work through, as I'm taking advantage of the upheaval to go through some of my old stuff to see whether I need it any more. Until sorted, it stays in heaps on the floor...

I got older again, officially.

And so back to work this week. The usual stack of e-mail awaited, I am involved in interviewing someone tomorrow, I have a piece to write for the company newsletter (also for tomorrow) and a toothache appeared to be developing in the same area as a little over a month ago. I arranged an emergency appointment and went to see the dentist today. Borrowing qidane's car, I made the appointment, and after a bit of investigation, the conclusion is that now is probably the time for the root treatment that's been a looming prospect since the pulp was exposed in 2002. Further appointments prepared, I set off to return to Dundee.

Pulling away from the Forgan roundabout towards the Tay Bridge, the car suddenly ceased to locomote in a forward direction, somewhat to my discomfiture. Some kind gentlemen, seeing my distress, endeavoured to remedy the situation by shunting me forwards. Some time later the police arrived.

qidane has been incredibly good about it. I'm fine, the occupants of the other two cars were fine apart from a passenger who was a bit shaken up. The damage to qidane's car appears to be relatively limited, as it looked like it was the third car that failed to stop. Most of the impact was absorbed by its crumple zones and those of the second car.

We expect that the insurance claim will be easily resolved in qidane's favour as the other cars ran into the back of qidane's (I am, of course, covered by his insurance), but the car will be checked to see why it may have stalled - it's an automatic, not a manual.

Can I have some quiet time now, please? :-)

Rotten luck - but I'm glad to hear you're still in one piece. Go have some quiet time with a hot bath to prevent whiplash problems. :)
