One of the nice things about living near a small town with a big cinema is the ability to wander in shortly before a showing and buy a ticket from the desk. Usually this is pretty reliable. However, this evening we turned up for the new Harry Potter movie almost half an hour before the showing, and all the seats were gone. There was only a queue of people waiting to retrieve their tickets from the pre-booking machine.

I've now pre-booked for tomorrow's matinée, but a small part of the small town has died.

I can appreciate that it's probably progress for most folk - and that city-dwelling readers may wonder what on earth I'm going on about - but I liked the informality. It looks like from now on I'll have to plan ahead more if I want to go and see a popular movie early in its run.

I understand. Having to pre-book is a real pain, as it takes all of the spontaneity out of it. There is something special about being able to think hmm... I think I'll go to see XYZ tonight and, possibly after queuing for a while if it's very popular, getting to see it.

Akureyri is small enough that we don't have the book-in-advance problem. But then, the films do take a while to get here. Serenity arrived yesterday, but I'm not planning to see it until after the weekend. It's all evening showings and the Icelanders get very, very drunk on Friday and Saturday nights. And who knows when the new HP movie will arrive?

Nah, none of the small town has died in St Andrews. It's just that the movie is soooooo fab that it is selling out even on it's second day of release!! :-D

Yay!! Go Harry Potter! Woo!!

And sorry again about being such a mopey, moany, mass of misery guts.

That's unusual, though I have known it happen before with big, much-hyped releases.

There are more students in town now than there were in our day.
