Won't Fix

The bug I reported in the Visual C++ compiler has been resolved as "Won't Fix". That's a bit disappointing as it's a useful part of the standard C++ language that won't work for managed classes, although there is no obvious reason why this should be so.

I've provided some additional information as to why I think it's worthy of reconsideration, but I guess I'll have to assume it's not going to be fixed in Orcas.

"Won't Fix"? That's something of an admission of defeat, isn't it? Sounds like you're boldly taking C++ where no C++ has gone before... :)

What they really mean is that it isn't considered high enough priority to be fixed in the next release. It doesn't necessarily mean it will never be fixed - just not soon. :-(

Actually there are plenty of people who have gone before in the world of standard C++, but perhaps no-one else has tried to do this sort of thing in C++/CLI (the .NET managed dialect of C++).

When I connect to your https://connect.microsoft.com/ link, neither Safari nor Firefox recognise the signing authority for the https certificate. I think I will choose not to trust anything that the Microsoft Connect site tells me...

Josh Ledgard may be interested in that - he's one of those encouraging better community involvement at Microsoft. Although in some ways it's a small thing, making sure that a certificate is recognised by "other" browsers would help to raise trust and mutual respect.
