The software development language I hate most in the world has made the Daily WTF. I was in a similar position to "Bryan"; I stayed with my employer for one year, and left in 1993 to go back to university for a Ph.D. For what it's worth, my income didn't take a significant hit when I became a postgraduate student - that tells you something about the job.

I wrote a brief introduction to MUMPS about a year ago.
